A metal bench at Pobrežje Cemetery uses a plant-like form to connect architecture and remembrance.

Objem (Embrace) stands in Maribor's Pobrežje Cemetery, beside Czeike's arcades dating from the 1930s. The seventeenth art bench in the Stories of Benches and People project was designed by architect Oskar Virag and unveiled on 15 September 2021. Made of metal, its form responds to the brick and concrete architecture of the nearby arcades.

Its defining feature is a plant-like shape rising from the ground and curling around the seat. The artist designed it to symbolise the connection between cemetery visitors and those they remember. Its rounded lines echo the circular and semicircular details of the arcades, while the name Embrace suggests closeness, memory and compassion.

When the bench was installed, Maribor's funeral services company also renewed the area between the former municipal and Franciscan cemetery sections. New paving and climbing greenery became part of the setting. The bench now offers a place for quiet reflection, linking architectural heritage with personal remembrance.
