Znanje (Knowledge) stands in the park beside the Third Grammar School of Maribor on Gosposvetska Road. Designed by Monika Lovše Rošker, it is the eighteenth art bench installation in the Stories of Benches and People project. Made from weathered steel and stone, it was unveiled on 20 September 2023 during the school's 160th anniversary celebrations. The installation complements a tree planted for its 150th anniversary.
The artwork consists of three benches that change appearance depending on the viewing angle. From a distance, they resemble birds spreading their wings. Closer up, their forms become open books. Together, these images symbolise the journey from learning at school to independence, with books representing knowledge and birds the freedom it can bring.
The benches provide a meeting place for generations of students. Their setting beside the anniversary tree reinforces the themes of growth and education. As part of Maribor's collection of unique art benches, Knowledge connects contemporary design with the school's history and the possibilities created by learning.
