Through the old town with Špela the bee
The route begins at Glavni trg. An experienced beekeeper accompanies participants to a terrace with urban beehives, a garden and views of the Drava, Pohorje and the synagogue. The visit introduces beekeeping in the city and the life of Maribor’s bees.
The next stop presents physician Filip Terč, who researched bee venom and the development of apitherapy in Maribor. The stop also includes his bust at Narodni dom.
The route continues along Vetrinjska ulica to Sončna hiša, with its beehive and bee-friendly planting. At Slomškov trg, a cathedral visit introduces Anton Martin Slomšek and his fable about a bee. The cathedral bell tower provides a view over the city’s rooftops.
Participants return to Glavni trg along Poštna ulica. The programme ends at master craftsman Beno’s preserved honeybread and candle-making workshop. The presentation of bee products, candle-making tools and the family’s craft history is complemented by a honeybread tasting.
Optional extensions and participation
By arrangement, the tour can continue to the Sončni raj estate or Cesar Beekeeping. The basic programme is intended for 1–20 participants.
