The hill that gave the city its name
In the first half of the 12th century, Marchburch was built on Piramida as a border castle and the centre of the Drava March. The settlement that developed below the hill took its name from the castle.
The walk explores the connection between the castle and Maribor’s beginnings. Participants learn about the building’s history and the archaeological excavations that revealed its outlines. The former castle site provides a tangible historical setting for the story of the city’s origins. The provider lists Vid Kmetič as the guide for this walk.
Participation
The programme is intended for groups of 10–40 people.
