Noordung’s connections with Maribor

Herman Potočnik Noordung (1892–1929), a Slovenian spaceflight pioneer, spent part of his childhood in Maribor. His father served as a naval physician in the Austro-Hungarian military, and the family moved between postings. After his father’s death, the family settled in a military apartment on the second floor of the post office palace at the corner of Poštna ulica and Slomškov trg.

Guide Borut Ambrožič presents Noordung’s life, his connections with Maribor and the two memorials through which the city commemorates him.

Ideas about living in space

Noordung wrote The Problem of Space Travel, addressing spaceflight and the design of a space station. His work is also presented by NASA. The tour connects his personal story with his contribution to the early development of space engineering.
