Along the Bistrica stream, rapids and unusual rocks reveal traces of Roman quarrying and old mills.

Bistriški Vintgar Gorge is a wooded valley carved by the Bistrica stream on the eastern slopes of Pohorje, above Slovenska Bistrica. Flowing water has shaped a narrow gorge with rocky ledges, rapids and waterfalls. Protected as a geomorphological natural monument, the area is notable for its varied rocks, including gneiss, granodiorite and Pohorje marble.

One of its landmarks is Bistriški Šum Waterfall, where water cascades over a rock face approximately 13 metres high. The trail also passes a Roman quarry, where white marble was extracted for funerary monuments. Remains of old mills and sawmills recall the time when the stream powered local crafts. Above the gorge lie the ruins of Ančnikovo Gradišče, a Late Roman fortification dating to the 4th century.

A marked trail starts at the waterworks in Zgornja Bistrica and follows the stream through woodland. Small bridges, steeper sections and views of the rocky streambed make the walk varied. Some stretches can be muddy and slippery. The gorge combines geological heritage, hiking and the history of life along the water.
