Old trees, natural springs and traces of a former river landscape meet within the city.

Stražun Forest lies in southeastern Maribor, between Pobrežje, Brezje and Tezno. It is the city's largest continuous woodland and a protected natural monument. Its distinctive landforms reveal an ancient channel of the Drava River, which deposited gravel here more than 10,000 years ago. Terraces and hollows shaped by the former river are still visible.

The mixed woodland includes beech, oak, hornbeam and Scots pine, with meadows and small cultivated plots between the trees. Springs emerge in the western part of the forest, where small remnants of former wetlands survive. Stražun preserves a glimpse of how the river landscape changed as the city expanded.

Paths through the forest are used for walking and recreation. The Heart Trail of Friendship is marked with hearts on trees, while the approximately 1.5-kilometre Boromir the Bat Forest Trail uses information boards to introduce woodland life. Stražun combines everyday access to nature with evidence of the Drava's ancient course on the edge of the city.
