Beside Hoče Forest, the ponds provide habitat for rare amphibians, wetland plants and birds.

Slivnica Ponds lie between Hoče and Slivnica, on the edge of Hoče Forest. These man-made ponds are surrounded by trees and grassy banks, with benches beside the largest pond. Despite their proximity to major roads, the wooded setting offers a place for quiet walks and birdwatching.

The ponds provide important wetland habitats. Rare plants found here include European starwort and water caltrop, while the threatened common spadefoot toad is one of the notable amphibians. Ducks and herons frequent the water. The wider Hoče Forest is also associated with the rare black stork, which occasionally nests there.

Water flowing from Pohorje feeds the ponds. The largest pond has a tradition of recreational fishing, although special nature protection rules apply to the area. A walking trail from Hoče through Hoče Forest leads to the ponds, and a local cycling route also passes nearby. The setting brings together everyday recreation and the conservation of sensitive habitats.
