Stolni vrh is a 382-metre hill on the northern edge of Maribor, above the Melje and Košaki districts. Its elevated position offers views of Maribor, the Pohorje Mountains and the Drava Plain. The green hills so close to the residential neighbourhoods provide an opportunity for walks away from the busy city streets.
At the summit stands a seven-metre wooden cross, erected in 1996 to mark the fifth anniversary of Slovenia's independence and the visit of Pope John Paul II. An inscription commemorates independence, giving the hill a historical and commemorative significance alongside its appeal as a viewpoint.
Stolni vrh marks a transition from the built-up city to the rolling hills northeast of Maribor. Vineyard landscapes are found nearby, offering a connection with the wider rural surroundings. From the summit, the city, Drava River and wooded slopes of Pohorje come together in one broad view, showing how closely Maribor is linked to its landscape.
