Dam-created waters near Maribor combine wetland wildlife, bird habitats and waterside recreation.

Maribor Lake Landscape Park covers the Drava River and its banks from the boundary with Ruše to the Mariborski Otok hydropower plant. The lake was formed when the river was dammed for electricity generation, and the area has been protected as a landscape park since 1992. Its character comes from open water, wooded slopes and riverside scenery close to Maribor.

The southern shore is largely forested, while settlements, fields and recreation areas alternate on the northern bank. Shallows and waterside habitats support fish, amphibians, dragonflies, bats and beavers. The Drava is also important for waterbirds during migration and winter. The park forms part of the Natura 2000 network.

Along the shore are boathouses, walking routes and Drava Center, where river scenery meets outdoor recreation. Rowing, sailing and windsurfing are among the activities offered on the lake. Maribor Lake brings together river conservation and waterside leisure, with activities subject to the rules of the protected area.
