Water cascades over rock ledges in a gorge with traces of Roman quarrying and historic mills.

Bistriški Šum Waterfall is a cascade approximately 13 metres high on the Bistrica stream, in the forested Bistriški Vintgar Gorge on the southern slopes of Pohorje. Rather than falling vertically, the water flows over weathered tonalite rock, forming a series of rapids and cascades. The waterfall is part of the protected natural heritage of the Bistrica stream.

The gorge also preserves the geological and human history of Pohorje. Nearby are the remains of a Roman quarry, where stone was extracted for funerary monuments. Watermills and sawmills once operated along the stream, and traces of these buildings can still be seen. Higher above the gorge stands Ančnikovo Gradišče, the remains of a 4th-century Late Roman fortification.

A marked hiking trail through Bistriški Vintgar leads towards the waterfall, starting near the waterworks in Zgornja Bistrica. The route follows the stream through woodland, rocky slopes and small rapids. Some sections can be muddy and slippery, making suitable footwear important. The waterfall brings together Pohorje's geology, flowing water and the history of life along the stream.
