An old-growth Pohorje forest shelters two waterfalls, mossy rocks and traces of timber transport.

The Šumik old-growth forest and the Veliki and Mali Šumik waterfalls lie along the Lobnica stream in the Pohorje Mountains above Ruše. On the steep slopes, a largely undisturbed woodland of beech, fir and spruce survives among moss-covered boulders and fallen trees. Part of the area is protected as the Šumik forest reserve.

Veliki Šumik waterfall drops over a rocky ledge into a narrow wooded valley, with Mali Šumik farther downstream. The Lobnica valley once carried the Lobniška riža timber chute, a water-powered channel used to transport logs from 1838 to 1959. Its history recalls the close connection between the forests of Pohorje and local livelihoods.

A marked trail approaches the area from Pri Bajgotu, near the confluence of the Črnava and Majland streams, which form the Lobnica. The terrain is steep, rocky and often slippery. The section between the waterfalls is very demanding and requires hiking experience and suitable equipment. The site's appeal lies in its surviving forest ecosystems, rugged stream valley and timber-floating history.
