Pekrska Gorca is a 351-metre hill on the southwestern edge of Maribor, between Pekre and Limbuš. Surrounded by vineyards, meadows and woodland, it is protected as a geological natural monument. From the summit, views extend across the northern slopes of Pohorje and the Maribor Plain. Walking paths make it a popular place for outdoor recreation close to the city.
At the top stands the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, built between 1832 and 1835 on the site of an older cross. A Way of the Cross with four chapels leads uphill. The hill is also called Slovenska Kalvarija (Slovenian Calvary), a name associated with the ethnic tensions of the 19th century. A local legend tells of a devil who tried to hurl a rock from Pohorje towards Maribor.
The hill also has an unexpected sporting history. In 1955, a ski jump designed by Stanko Bloudek was built on its slopes and later hosted international competitions. It was dismantled in 1993, but some traces remain visible. Pekrska Gorca thus brings together geological heritage, pilgrimage history and ski jumping.
