Slovenska Bistrica Beekeeping Centre in Zgornja Bistrica introduces visitors to the life of bees, beekeeping traditions and the importance of honey plants. Built through the voluntary work of local beekeepers, the centre combines education, heritage preservation and an insight into honey production. It welcomes individuals, families and organised groups.
A highlight is the educational trail of honey plants, featuring trees, shrubs and herbs that provide food for bees. Visits can also include the apiary and a breeding station for the Carniolan honey bee, a subspecies native to Slovenia. Honey tastings introduce the different varieties produced by local beekeepers.
The centre also houses a beekeeping museum with artefacts from the surrounding area, illustrating the history of the craft. A small shop offers honey and other bee products, while a specialist library and lecture room support educational activities and meetings. The centre connects local knowledge with the natural environment and the beekeeping heritage of Slovenska Bistrica.
