Martnica Pohorje is a family-run restaurant and popular excursion destination on the Ruše side of Pohorje, 682 metres above sea level. Situated along the road connecting Ruše with Areh, it is surrounded by forest. Its hillside setting offers views across the Drava Valley and neighbouring hills, reaching as far as the Austrian Koralpe mountains on clear days.
Known for its homemade food and long-standing hospitality tradition, Martnica serves local specialities including meat preserved in a wooden tub, pork knuckles and burgers. Lunches can also be arranged in advance. The restaurant is a stopping point for hikers and cyclists and a venue for gatherings and group events.
A three-kilometre walking route from Ruše, with 370 metres of elevation gain, leads to Martnica. It is also popular with cyclists and accessible by paved road from Ruše. One of its distinctive traditions is the 24-hour Martnica Ascent, a charity event in which participants repeatedly climb the hill on foot or by bicycle. Martnica brings together outdoor activity, local cuisine and community life on Pohorje.
