Buncove skale is a natural rock climbing area in Frajhajm on Pohorje, surrounded by forest and located beside the Polskava stream. Its rock faces rise between 5 and 15 metres, offering varied opportunities for sport climbing. Reached by a short walk along a forest track, the site is one of the outdoor climbing destinations in the wider Maribor area.
Its defining feature is the gneiss rock with distinctive cracks and overhangs, creating a range of technical climbing challenges. The site offers more than 50 climbing routes, graded from 4a+ to 7b+. Different difficulty levels cater to climbers with varying experience, while the rock formations encourage a range of movement techniques and precise use of holds.
Climber Janko Oprešnik, known as Zumba, played an important role in developing the area, cleaning and equipping many of its routes. Today, Buncove skale forms part of Pohorje's local climbing scene, combining sport climbing with a wooded setting beside a mountain stream. Appropriate climbing equipment and belaying skills are essential.
