Beside Maribor Cathedral on Slomšek Square, Novi svet pri stolnici brings the flavours of Dalmatia and Istria to the city centre. Its Mediterranean-style garden terrace combines outdoor dining with the historic setting of Maribor's old town.
The menu focuses on fresh fish, scampi, mussels and other seafood, prepared in the style of Croatia's Adriatic coast. Specialities also include Istrian fuži pasta, truffle dishes, fritaja and cheese from Pag Island. The restaurant offers a selection of more than 100 wines. Weekday lunches and non-seafood dishes broaden the choice.
The building holds two unusual pieces of local history: a memorial study dedicated to General Rudolf Maister and a vine approximately 280 years old. Live Dalmatian music is another feature of the restaurant's atmosphere on selected occasions. The combination of seafood, wine and historical details gives Novi svet pri stolnici a distinctive place in Maribor's dining scene.
