On Tinjska Gora near Slovenska Bistrica, Avguštin Winery continues a family wine story that began in 1972. That year, Anton Mernik Sr bought a former parish estate with a house and wine cellar and planted Sauvignon and Welschriesling vines. His daughter Zdenka and her husband Miran Avguštin took over in 1990 and began restoring the vineyards.
The family expanded the estate's plantings to around 10,000 vines. Its range includes Welschriesling, Riesling, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Yellow Muscat. A distinctive wine is Ritoznojčan PTP, made as part of the regional Ritoznojčan consortium. The cellar combines traditional methods, including spontaneous fermentation, with modern winemaking technology.
The winery offers guided wine tastings and cellar tours, introducing the family's history, grape varieties and wine styles. A visit connects the wines with the viticultural heritage of Tinjska Gora and the countryside around Slovenska Bistrica.
