Maribor Stories: Ikebana explores a darker side of the city's past through the former Drava Café at 9 Taborska Street, beside the Old Bridge. In the first half of the 20th century, the café had a questionable reputation and employed young dancers and singers. The story also explains the expression Styrian ikebana. Unlike the Japanese art of flower arranging, the local phrase referred to a violent fight ending in a stabbing.
The expression also found its way into Slovenian music. Maribor rock band Lačni Franz used it in the song Ikebana, which mentions a character named Bobi Likar and the address 9 Taborska Street. The former café and its reputation thus became part of the city's musical memory.
After closing, the building stood abandoned for years and occasionally sheltered homeless people. On 14 February 2013, Valentine's Day, it collapsed under the weight of snow and years of deterioration. Although the building is gone, its story survives through music and local memory. It forms part of the Maribor Stories collection, exploring lesser-known chapters of the city's history.
