Lent Festival 2024: JazzLent: Ilhan Ersahin's Istanbul Sessions
Join us!
Music for the 21st century, "fusion" jazz for a dancing audience.
You will hear saxophonist, composer, producer, club owner, festival curator, and label owner, Ilhan Ersahin, playing with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Sao Paulo, performing with Bugge Wesseltoft at the Blue Note club in Tokyo, or playing an oriental set with Turkish Roma in an elegant concert hall somewhere in Europe.
This truly versatile musician has inspired an entirely new generation that pays no heed to genre boundaries. The "NuBlu sound," named after his renowned club in New York's East Village, is considered jazz music that has absorbed influences from rock, reggae, funk, trip-hop, and Middle Eastern traditions. Ibrahim Maalouf, Nils-Petter Molvær, Erik Truffaz, Gilberto Gil, and Norah Jones are just some of the names you can hear on his albums.
