Schreber's gardens are hidden among the canopies
The forest, which extends into the regions of Pobrežje and Brezje, is the last larger remains of the Maribor forests. Today's park forest is intended as a place for everyday repose and recreation for the city inhabitants.
In mixed forest with monumental and recreational purposes, beach, red pine, oak and hornbeam trees predominate. There are numerous springs, as well as field and grassland areas.
Stražun is considered to be one of the best preserved urban forests in Central Europe and represents an exceptional natural heritage, and at the same time it is a place of recreation, rest and experience for many citizens of the city of Maribor. The Stražun forest is protected as a natural monument, but at the same time it is defined as a natural value. It is a unique landscape, formed on the deposits of gravel, which were deposited by the river Drava at the end of the ice age more than 10,000 years ago.
Today, most of Stražun is covered by a forest interspersed with paths. The heart path of friendship takes you through the forest to the most popular point. Just follow the heart mark on the trees.
